About Maria Kardatou

Maria was born in Thessaloniki where she still lives. At the University of Thessaloniki she studied English literature as well as the Italian and Russian languages. She has worked as a teacher.
She is the author of: The Erotic Dweller (1987); The Fishhook (1994); Airclub (1997); Not Even Dew (2002) and Safe Passage (2009). She has also written a book for children ; The Bitter Flower of Tobacco (1992).
Her poems have been translated into English and French and have appeared in English and Greek literary magazines. In the U.S. her poems have apeared in Bogg, Mineshaft, and The Temple.
Two books of selections of her poems have been published by the Bookstore in Lewisburg. The selections were made by the author and the translator, Darlene Fife. 10 Poems from The Fishook, and The Thessaloniki Poems ten poems from Airclub. The Bookstore also published a translation of the complete text of Not Even Dew in 2005, translated by Darlene Fife.
All of the English editions of her work are bilingual.
